Good friends

Good friends.  Isn't that what it's all about, sharing laughter, love and memories with those who are dear to us?  I am blessed with so many wonderful friends.  One of my dearest friends is Cynthia Brown.  She is a fantastic storyteller and now an author of a ghost story book, "Folktales and Ghost Stories of North Carolina's Piedmont".  Recently Cynthia came to Washington to promote her new book and share pirate stories at the library.  Afterwards, Frank and I took her out for lunch at one of our favorite restaurants.  It was a great time to visit, catch up, and make new memories!

Michaelmas

For those of us who believe in angels, September 29th is Michaelmas, the day that honors the great archangel Michael.  This heavenly being can be found in Christian, Jewish, Islamic, and esoteric texts.  Tradition tells us that it was Saint Michael, with his fiery blue sword, who led the armies of heaven against Lucifer during the great war in heaven.  Michael, along with Gabriel, is featured in countless works of art.  Perhaps the most famous location carrying Michael's name is Mont-Saint-Michel in Normandy, France.

Shiver me timbers!

My dear storytelling friend Cynthia Moore Brown will be with us at the Brown Library, in Washington, on Saturday, September 17, to share pirate, nautical and ghost stories.  She will also be promoting her new book, "Folktales and Ghost Stories of North Carolina's Piedmont".  This program will be suitable for children ages 8-12, who are accompanied by an adult.

I hope you'll join us.  It'll be a great way to celebrate and enjoy, "Talk Like a Pirate Day", which occurs on September 19.  Arr!
